The Ministry of Education and Research supports the smart solutions that increase the energy efficiency of the Literature Centre’s building
In 2023, the building where the offices, the library and the collections of the Under and Tuglas Literature Centre are located was renovated with the aim of improving its energy efficiency through smart energy management. For this purpose, a modern heating system was built instead of the current inefficient and expensive one, the existing ventilation without heat recovery will be replaced with an automated, energy-efficient heat recovery ventilation system and a smart energy-saving lighting solution will be set up.
The works were based on the audit carried out in the early spring of 2023, which gave an assessment of the building’s energy consumption and technical condition, as well as recommendations for improving its energy and indoor climate. The house was built in the early 1930s and it was completed with an extension in 1976. Furthermore, as a cultural asset it is a heritage site. Thus, the renovation is carried out in close cooperation with heritage protection specialists who support the introduction of new solutions in such a way that it also helps to highlight the historical value of the building.
The Ministry of Education and Research allocated 250,000 euros for the renovation with the deadline for using the funds by the end of 2023. We are involved in the renovation of the building as part of the LIFE IP BuildEST integrated project “Increasing the reconstruction capacity of buildings to achieve Estonian climate goals” which aims to develop the necessary tools for the full implementation of Estonia’s long-term reconstruction strategy.
