Iris Eelmaa defended her bachelor’s thesis on the establishing of the Tuglas’ House Museum
On 27 May 2024, Iris Eelmaa, the Conservation Specialist of the Under and Tuglas Literature Centre, defended her bachelor’s thesis “The idea and implementation of the establishment of the Friedebert Tuglas’ House Museum in the light of museology and Soviet studies” in the field of cultural studies at Tallinn University. The supervisor of the research was Elle-Mari Talivee who is a Senior Researcher at the Literature Centre.
The purpose of Iris’ bachelor’s thesis was to start delving into the history of the House Museum, mainly during the period 1970–1980. Her work is primarily based on the material stored in the Archive of the Literature Centre and the memories of the former employees of the House Museum. She interpreted this data based on methods of museology and Soviet studies.
Although several questions were clarified within the scope of this research and exciting discoveries were revealed, which will probably form an article in the nearest future, many times more material awaits further analysis than the volume of the thesis in question allowed to cover. In the fall, Iris hopes to start studying for a master’s degree in history at the Institute of Humanities at Tallinn University. She plans to continue researching the history of the Friedebert Tuglas´ House Museum, considering information about the House Museum found in other Estonian archives in addition to the Literature Centre’s archives.
