On Saturday, 27 April 2024, the literary magazine Looming will celebrate its 101st birthday. As usual, prizes are awarded to Looming’s authors for their contributions published in the past year. Literature Centre’s employees Elle-Mari Talivee and Marin Jänes with their article Kirjaniku teekond 1905–1917 (Journey of a Writer 1905–1917) receive the award in the category of articles.

The article was published in the 100th anniversary issue of Looming in April 2023 and tells the story of the founder of Looming, Friedebert Tuglas, namely his formation as a writer and editor-in-chief. The primary focus is on Tuglas’ life after his participation in the events of 1905 which led to his sentencing into the Toompea prison, from where he was released by accident the day before his 20th birthday. This was followed by years of wandering in different countries during which he changed his name, passport, external manners and location, and found material and opportunities for writing.

Don´t forget to listen to Looming’s radio program from 30 April 2023 where Elle-Mari Talivee talks about Tuglas.
