Marin Jänes has studied at the universities of Tallinn and Tartu and has been a visiting student at the University of Helsinki and several universities in Germany. Currently she is pursuing her PhD in cultural studies at Tallinn University, where her main research topics are Baltic-German cultural history, multilingualism in early modern Tallinn and sociolinguistics.

She has been working at the Under and Tuglas Literature Centre of the Estonian Academy of Sciences since 2017 as scientific secretary and vice-president of the scientific council. As a member of the management, she participates in administration and organisation of scholarly activities. Her specific areas of responsibility are coordination of publishing activities, personnel, planning of seminars and conferences, communication, and much more.

Marin Jänes is the member of the Literature Centre’s project “Connections, transition, change: nobilitas haereditaria ac litteraria in the emergence of early modern literature in Polish and Swedish Livonia” (PRG1926) and Tallinn University’s project “Translation in History. Estonia 1850-2010: Texts, Agents, Institutions and Practices” (PRG PRG1206).
