Today is the third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The date of our Republic’s birthday also marks the beginning of the brave resistance of Ukrainians.

The Ukrainian-Estonian poet and translator Katya Novak has translated verses by Marie Under, written during the Second World War and published in her collection Mureliku suuga (With Sorrowful Mouth, 1942).

The poem also has an English translation from 1955, when William Kleesmann Matthews translated a selection of Under’s poetry, Child of Man, published in London by Boreas. The translation can be found here.
